Inspired by YOGs

YOG Year 12 Breakfast

The Class of 2024 were welcomed into the ÐÂÂ鶹ÊÓƵ Old Grammarians association in October at the annual YOG Year 12 Breakfast. The students were delighted to hear some words of encouragement and inspiration from YOG President Andrew Gaythorpe (YOG 1982), asking them to stay connected as their journeys continue outside of school life.

Each student also received special gifts from YOG as we wished them all the best for their exams and assessments.

Community Links Development Squad

In October, our YVG Community Links Development Squad, made of up students from Year 5 and above, visited two local community organisations to learn more about what they do to support their communities.

provides a variety of support to local community members in need, from physical household items through to counselling and further services.

feeds all profits back into the community, including providing asylum seeker advocacy, housing and support for local refugees.

The students gained valuable lessons about empathy, contribution and volunteerism. Our thanks to Dr Mark Boyes (YOG 1987) for his support and mentorship of the squad this year.

Neurodiversity Insights

Earlier this year the Learning Assistants at ÐÂÂ鶹ÊÓƵ received valuable insights into neurodiversity affirming education from psychologist Emma-Rose Parsons (YOG 1998). We were thrilled to see one of our YOGs able to share their insights with our staff, in turn benefitting our students. The enthusiasm and engagement in the room was tangible.

If you have any suggestions for how we can continue to involve and share knowledge from our YOGs with the current stuff and students, please email yog@yvg.vic.edu.au .
